Literacy Initiative
ARIZONA READS TOGETHER
The Arizona Sports & Events Alliance has created annual reading programs to inspire third-grade students to develop a love for reading. Third grade is a critical milestone, as students who aren’t reading proficiently by the end of this year are four times more likely to drop out of high school, according to the Annie E. Casey Foundation. Using a tournament-style format, students log reading minutes to advance through brackets, combining fun, friendly competition with educational growth.
These programs have engaged thousands of students across Arizona, resulting in millions of minutes read. They leave a lasting educational legacy by fostering improved literacy and a passion for learning.
